Introduction

Catherine Balston is a journalist based between São Paulo and the UK. She spent 15 years living full-time in Brazil, travelling far and wide across the country in search of stories about food, travel, sustainability and the arts.

Catherine is the author of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro City Guides for Louis Vuitton and Wallpaper* and has contributed to Fodor's Brazil guidebooks as well as numerous articles for the BBC Travel, Monocle, Forbes, The Guardian, The Telegraph, Lonely Planet and more.

Education

Catherine has an MA in International Business from the University of Edinburgh and cut her teeth with writing and editing on the job as assistant editor and then deputy editor for Time Out São Paulo magazine. 

Fun fact

A highlight of her time in Brazil was playing the trumpet dressed as a nun on top of a sound truck during São Paulo's street Carnival.
