Introduction

Matt Fripp is a British writer and entrepreneur now based on Île de Ré, a small island off France’s Atlantic coast. He is the founder of Jazzfuel, a platform which explores jazz history through stories, and supports professional musicians with their careers.

Experience

Matt began his career as a professional musician in London before moving into artist management and live booking, where he worked closely with venues, festivals and promoters across Europe. The role involved constant travel, offering a first-hand view of the different local scenes that shape how music is performed and received.

This experience continues to inform his writing, which often explores the connection between music and place — from historic jazz cities to smaller, lesser-known scenes that play an equally important role in keeping the music alive.

Selected publications

Through Jazzfuel, he now writes and publishes content for an international readership, combining industry insight with a broader cultural perspective on jazz.

Education

Matt has a Bmus(hons) degree from London's Guildhall School of Music & Drama where he studied jazz saxophone.
