Introduction
Becca Hensley is a Texas-based journalist, poet, essayist, hotel expert and artist. She finds magic in ordinary things and turns found objects into stories. A world traveler since childhood, she has an insatiable curiosity, tends to laugh spontaneously and often brandishes a quirky perspective drawn from a frozen moment in time.
Experience
Believing that travel writing can be an umbrella for all of her passions—including gastronomy, art, design, wellness, hotels and fashion. She has written about all aspects of global travel for four decades. She was a travel columnist for Austin Monthly for 20 years. With thousands of bylines in hundreds of outlets, her journalistic work has appeared in Town & Country, Architectural Digest, Esquire, Texas Monthly Travel + Leisure, Robb Report, Preferred Travel Magazine, DOTW, Toronto Star, TIME, South China Morning Post, Conde Nast Traveler, Elite Traveler, New York Post, Travel Curator, Harpers Bazaar, Chicago Tribune among others. Her poetry has been published In hundreds of literary journals including New York Quarterly, Ploughshares, The American Poetry Review and Rattle.
Education
Becca has a BA in History and Spanish from the University of Colorado and an MA in World Studies and History from the University of Texas.
Awards
Becca’s work has been recognized by journalistic organizations such as NATJA and SATW and won a variety of poetry awards.
Other work
Her paintings have appeared in juried exhibitions and in magazines as illustration. She teaches healing journaling courses at spas, local venues, one-on-one and on ZOOM. Becca’s written three (so far unpublished) novels. For years, she served on the board of SAFE, Austin’s Domestic Abuse Treatment Center.
